The Amazing Botanical Garden Oslo

Exploring Maridalsvannet and Akerselva in wonderful Oslo

Today I found yet another pearl in Oslo; Maridalsvannet. It is a lake that supplies Oslo of drinking water. There’s a river, Akerselva, that runs from this lake out into the Oslo fjord. My love, Geir, was my personal guide. Along the river you find plenty of small fresh water “beaches” where you can chill and cool down. The air is fresh the water is pure and clean. A pearl in Oslo.
No more industry or pollution. Water filtered through nature.

Day 4: Today we went to see some really amazing places and islands that can’t even be found on Google Map. Some hidden treasures. Stunning beaches too lonely to be mentioned in Lonely Planet. I have few words to describe the beauty we saw. I leave some photos that give a glimpse of what we encountered in Vesterålen, Norway. Click on photo to enlarge.

Geir’s father showed us placed where he and his parents used to live. Some places only accessible by boat. Many of which are vacated today. Bridges and tunnels have since been built to prevent people from leaving.

Lofoten: Sun and stunning nature

Day 3: We were lucky and the sun was shining a few moments. Today we drove around the Hadsel island. The nature was mindblowing. Geir and Niklas, his oldest son, jumped into the cold Norwegian Sea. If they kept swimming they would have reached Greenland one day. Click on thumbnails to open photo gallery:

Lofoten: First impressions, green mountains and fresh blue water

Lofoten (map): The nature is wild and untamed. It’s usually hot during summer, but right now it’s only 10 C / 50 F and raining. It’s like driving through a huge green Nordic rainforest. Quite some contrasts to the deserts of Arizona and sandy California we just came back from. Here, even the mountains are green. It’s all clean, fresh and green.

I want to share some snap shots taken around 9PM from the car:

17th May Norwegian National Day

Geir and I just came home after celebrating the Norwegian Constitution Day, 17th May.

As I lived for over 16 years in Copenhagen, Denmark, this was the first time in years I celebrated this special day in my home country.

The weather was somewhat clouded but still beautiful. Here are some impressions I would love to share with you. All pictures taken with my iPhone 4.
