I have an additional comment for you, C FUDd, which I suppose you are already familier with:

FUD = Fear, uncertainty and doubt (scare tactics). See this <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">FUD wiki entry</a> for more info if needed.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_special_affairs" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">OSA</a> (the Gestapo equivalent in Scientology) is known for its use of scare tactics and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_(Scientology)" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Fair Game</a> to keep Scientologists in the fold, muzzled. I do not intend to go into such a low game. I seek to live with the truth. I do not seek revenge. I seek justice.

When Scientologists are exposed to enough truth they will snap out of the trance sooner or later.

Hi, and welcome, C Fudd. :)

One thing for sure, the spell is hard to break.

Being exposed to former members who are speaking out is very powerful. As we share the same reality and experience. Many have been hurt and now more and more people dare to speak out!

Hi Anette; I have no connection to S except for reading Geir's '<a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/144031292/From-Independent-Scientologist-to-just-me" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">justme.pdf</a>' book, although that is lot of information!

It seems to me, that the best way to reach the person who has become a dedicated, er, deceived Scientologist is to give them materials that they will accept. If this were Christianity, you'd give them an altered copy of the Bible. The alterations would be designed to do either one of two things: remove the 'bad' parts of the religion and replace them with something 'good', OR, make the Bible so contradictory or nasty that they just stop believing in the religion altogether, although that could backfire spectacularly if they keep believing and following what is written.

If this were Christianity, there would be a major obstacle to tricking them in this way: they would already have their own copy of the Bible. However, with CoS and its confidential writings, this becomes trivial; you and they both know they haven't read everything. And even better, if the church finds out about this and starts sending directives saying that "such-and-such a book is wrong, do not read it", then you can start sending directives of your own in the very same style, saying that various writings from the church are wrong. If you're feeling particularly nasty, you can even declare selected church officials to be suppressive persons and play the 'fair game' card on them for a change! And after all, they are suppressing people, are they not? The suppressives took over the church!

Enjoy!

I agree with you, Maria.

It was the good in me, my urge to help others, that brought me into Scientology. I sacrificed my own needs to the benefit of others.

I gave my heart. They scorched my soul.

I was like you Annette, so thrilled to have found something that would truly turn the tides of what I saw as a seriously flawed civilization, so prone to war and violence, so often unjust, and full of hypocrisy. I felt that even if I just became a bit more "theta" then I would have contributed, at least to some degree, to raising the tone level and therefore sanity of the world. Imagine millions upon millions -- even just bit more theta would have tremendous and unforeseen impact on world conditions.

And really, I still think this is its true value, this ability to assist an individual to shift into less dissonant states.

Sadly, for every step in that direction, I was confronted with actions taken inside and outside of the Church that headed in what was clearly an opposite direction. The answer, of course, was to pour the coals on becoming as "theta" as possible and assisting as many people as possible to become as "theta" as possible. By whatever means.

These days I am very ambivalent about the whole thing. It nearly always irritates me to read Scientology materials -- so bombastic and so full of ambiguous and sweeping statements that I can scarcely tolerate it. It is amazing what being in love with something (as one is at the height of "theta") can forgive and ignore. It was my love that brought me to it, my love that took me from it and my love that was abused along the way.
